Crimson & Clover – Concannon Vineyard

Concannon’s Legacy:
For over 125 years, the histories of the California wine country and Concannon Vineyard have been intrinsically linked. Four generations of family involvement has a rich history of firsts:

  • A Founding Family of California Wines – Over 127 years as the first successful Irish-American winery in the U.S. in 1883.
  • Bucking the trend by varietally labeling Petite Sirah, before any other U.S. winery with vintage 1961.
  • Pioneering clones 7 and 8, the bedrocks of California Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1970s, replanting many of Napa Valley vineyards.

Crimson & Clover
 Vineyard Notes:

Our Conservancy wines help protect precious California vineyard land from urban development, as all Conservancy winegrowers have placed their land into a legal trust that protects against development forever. The Conservancy wines preserve not only the land but a simpler way of life for future generations.

Winemaker Notes:

Th e 2009 Crimson & Clover, Conservancy is a velvety blend of signature Livermore varietals. Aromas of currant, clove, and vanilla lead into bright, fruit flavors of blackberry on the palate. Th e spicy finish is soft and long with hints of leather and tobacco. A tribute to the “Father of America’s First Petite Sirah,” Jim Concannon, from his son John, this wine epitomizes the innovative, steadfast spirit of Jim. Bold and lusciously fruity, the backbone of Petite Sirah gives this blend fantastic depth and structure.

Food Pairing:

Black pepper-crusted Filet Mignon with goat cheese or grilled artichoke with tarragon aioli.

MY THOUGHTS:
This red blend is delicious! I shared the Crimson & Clover with my Hubby and Step Mom whom both love red wine. Both of them thought the wine was really good. Personally I enjoyed it, there is a lot of flavor but it is not overwhelming and blends together well. Some reds can be too spicy for me and this was a perfect and “soft” finish (as the winemaker described). This is a great Holiday wine to enjoy with family. I definitely recommend the Crimson & Clover to others.
