The Home Depot has workshops for kids once a month, usually the first Saturday of the month. These are great for the family and they are free! Your child will receive an apron just like the employees wear along with a pin for the project they are making and a certificate.
No need to bring anything, Home Depot has everything supplied for you from the pieces to make the project to the tools and sometimes paint.
My kids have been doing this for a few years now and love it. It’s a fun way to get them hands on and to learn how to build things. The workshops usually start in the morning so most of the time we make a morning/day of it eating breakfast out or making fun plans for the rest of the day. Even though they are older now they still need our help reading instructions and holding things for them as they nail pieces together. Home Depot has done a great job with the project kits and making it as easy as they can. Holes are pre-made in the pieces so it makes hammering a little easier.
The kids are always so proud of themselves for what they have made!
Last month they made a Penske truck, but we have made many things from a bug house to a monster truck. Some times they even have projects that go with a movie that is coming out or that go with the season.

This was another fun family adventure for our family. My little monkey LOVED this movie as much as she loved the first one. She is obsessed with the outdoors and wildlife and enjoyed the adventure that Chinook and the kiddos go on. With Against the Wild 1 – she renamed all of our dogs Chinook, and this time she just wants a new dog like Chinook 😉 We definitely recommend this movie for a fun movie night with the family.

StarringMy Name is Earl’sJason Lee, a widower with three children, he and the family begin to care for swan eggs after the mother swan dies. Frankie, the youngest daughter, takes an active interest in learning about swans. Friday Night Lightsstar Minka Kelly plays an ornithologist named Ginny who takes the eggs away from Frankie to help them hatch elsewhere, much to Frankie’s disappointment. Having a change of heart, Ginny brings the baby swans back to their home to acclimate them to having a relationship with the father swan. From there a relationship with the family grows into something beautiful as Ginny takes Frankie under her wing and teaches her about caring for birds. They learn about each other, and like the layering of an onion, the relationships unfold in a simple and poignant way.
Set in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, the landscape is breathtaking, the cinematography crisp and beautiful. The acting is well done, although a bit more depth into Minka Kelly’s character would have been a bonus. The standout of the movie is definitely Frankie, played by child actress Maggie Elizabeth Jones. If you feel you’ve spotted her before, you might remember her adorable face in the Matt Damon filmWe Bought a Zoo.
